Christmas events and activity in Mold
Mold’s annual Christmas Lights switch-on event is scheduled this year for Tuesday 30th November 2010 from 3.45pm to 8pm.
The event is one of the highlights in the Mold town calendar during which the whole of the High Street is made over to a fantastic fun fair, shops stay open, festive singing and music takes place in Daniel Owen Square and various stalls can be found throughout the town.
Local schools and Mold Town Concert Band will provide much of the music and entertainment followed by Santa Claus who will switch on the lights at 6pm.
Councillor Chris Bithell, Mayor of Mold commented, “The Christmas lights switch-on event is a real family affair for Mold. It’s great to see everyone, young and older enjoying the carnival atmosphere and the town is really busy. We hope that the people of Mold and surrounding area will come out and help get Christmas off to a great start.”
Mold’s nativity scene is always worth seeking out and will be located in Daniel Owen Precinct near to New Street again this year. It is put together by “Cytun” which represents all of Mold Churches.
During the Saturdays on the run up to Christmas a number of local organisations are planning to come into town for carol singing and enjoying the Mold festive experience. You may even find Santa making an appearance!
Mold’s acclaimed Street Market will be in full swing right up to until Christmas Eve, with a special market being held actually on Friday 24th December. It will obviously not be operating on Saturday 25th December or 1st January 2011 however!
A “Magic of Mold” festive shopping weekend will be held over the weekend before Christmas (Friday 17th December to Monday 20th December) so that residents and visitors can take advantage of Mold’s unique and varied festive shopping experience. Many of Mold’s shops will be open until 8pm on the Friday and Monday, from 9am to 6pm on the Saturday and from 11am to 4pm on the Sunday. A Christmas street market will be a great attraction and the Farmers’ market will be available on Saturday in Saint Mary’s Church Hall, King Street, for shoppers to stock up on something special from a local food or craft producer.
Anthony Parry, Chair of Mold 2000 retailers group has said, “The Magic of Mold festive shopping weekend is certainly worth a visit, not only will you find Mold at its best and especially with many retailers joining in with the festive fun during the weekend and you could even find the odd complimentary mince pie!”
